"Nothing of value is free. Even the breath of life is purchased at birth only through gasping effort and pain… The best things in life are beyond money; their price is agony and sweat and devotion...and the price demanded for the most precious of all things in life is life itself--ultimate cost for perfect value."Jean Dubois, “Starship Troopers” by Robert Heinlein

For almost a month and a half, Static Alliance and Insert Guild Name Here was stagnant. As if we’d shot an albatross, the wind fell from our sails and we sat “As idle as a painted ship Upon a painted ocean.” Ahn’Qiraj Apathy had claimed it’s latest victim, mercilessly… but Night-Mair lost this roll and would need claim another prize.

This past week ramped up on Thursday with a strong performance against the first four guardians of the temple, including our first time killing Fankriss since the new changes to his sons were implemented. Sons indeed, I’d daresay they are the entirety of the fight with *yawn* some old has been, punch-drunk Pop still holding on to the family jewels. He yielded them up to us, but this was just a stopping point en route to the real prize…

We packed up for the night, dreaming of giant, poison flinging, man eating, wasps of mass destruction… ok, maybe that was just me. Saturday, Sunday and Monday remained for concentrated efforts against Princess Huhuran. With a focus of old we hunkered down, perhaps secretly knowing what would happened if we failed. Our best efforts, with nothing held back… if not this weekend, then when?

Three days blurred into one long precession of pain. “Ok, here we go guys, she’s at 30% let’s get ev… Uh, ok, let’s get rezzed up and give this another go, that was pretty good…”

ZealotOnAStickHorde Defeats Razorgore!
Posted on 03/07/06 12:38 AM

After more than a month without attempting Blackwing Lair, Static Horde and Scorned finally stepped back into Blackwing Lair Saturday night. With several attempts, we made more progress than we ever had in there, surpassing our record on eggs destroyed when we'd tried in Synergy on our fourth attempt. We changed up our tactics a bit more, and with our Warriors kiting loads of legionnaires around the room, we destroyed all the eggs and got to actually fight Razorgore himself three times. Our final attempt Saturday night, valiant priests zoning back in after death scratched him a bit more, and we ended our efforts Saturday with Razorgore at 47%. Definite progress, but still a little . . . unfulfilling.

Tonight, after a quick kill of Onyxia, Static Horde and Scorned went back to Blackwing Lair, with a fresh Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer. Being honest, I was a little skeptical of the value of this buff, I figured it'd be wasted, with us taking another couple of attempts to down Razorgore. The quality people we have in Static Horde and Scorned proved me wrong though, and I could hardly be happier to be proven wrong.

Going in with 39 people (notice Ragnos offline there, he was out for the entire fight), we dropped Razorgore on our first attempt tonight, with only 2 deaths. Our Warriors and Hunters did a fantastic job kiting, and everyone else stepped up and healed, slaughtered mages, kept totems in action, and we made the fight look easy.

Gratz out to Nokomis and Valucolso on their first Tier 2 3-set piece bonuses with Stormrage and Bloodfang Bracers, and Solvanirn on the Gloves of Rapid Evolution, our first BWL loot.

After our success on Razorgore, we stepped in for our first opportunity to play with Vaelestrasz. As anyone who's fought Va...

LaagStatic in Ahn'Qiraj: The Beginning

"Anyone who clings to the historically untrue and thoroughly immoral doctrine that 'violence never solves anything' I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms."Mr. Dubois, “Starship Troopers” by Robert Heinlein

On Saturday, Feb 11th, the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj opened up and the world as we knew it… stopped. For those who were there and stood against the onslaught of insectile horrors that were unleashed, that day will live in infamy. When the dust settled ten hours later, a looming temple beckoned from the swirling sands with the droning of Hives Regal and Zori in the distance.

Static Alliance and Insert Guild Name Here first stepped foot in the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj on Monday, having spent all of our time the day before playing with Nefarian. Several Anubisath Sentinels watched us from a distance as an Obsidian Eradicator strolled by. Unlike before where sometimes entire strategies for every fight were known ahead of time, naught but vague rumors existed to guide us this evening. Taking a collective breath, we took our first steps into madness.

“We must meet this threat with our courage, our valor, indeed with our very lives to ensure that human civilization, not insect, dominates this galaxy NOW AND ALWAYS!”Marshall Diennes, the movie “Starship Troopers”

Before long, The Prophet Skeram loomed before us on the steps leading into the very heart of the temple. An imposing mons...

LaagThe Lord of Blackrock is No More
Posted on 01/22/06 03:22 PM

At the top of the mountain sat the undisputed Lord of Blackrock Spire looking out over the charred landscape far below. Victor Nefarius sat on his throne with his smug expression, supremely confident in his rule. He did not even have the courtesy of feigning surprise at our intrusion to his inner sanctum. He was expecting another visit from Static Alliance and IGNH and just sat there waiting for the game to begin anew.

In moments we were beset by his minions as wave after wave poured out to overwhelm us as they had so many times before. But this time the results would be different. As Nefarius ran about the room toying with us, the Drakonids fell in droves to the Hellfire we unleashed until the dragon realized we would not go so quietly into the night as before. When Nefarian landed he was not facing the decimated ranks to which he’d become accustomed.

Still smug in his pride, Onyxia’s brother played with us more than truly fought. He called on each of our classes, plaguing each in turn, but he never once thought we were ready for each. Only with his death fast approaching did his confidence ever slip. But even then, we were ready and once again threw down the Drakonids he animated. But the battle had taken it’s toll on us as well. Our rogues were all dead save one, our mages were completely gone, and our hunters were reduced to close quarters combat. Would we have the damage still needed to finish what we’d set out for?

The death of Nefarian epitomized the single minded determination of both guilds. That night was the culmination of epic efforts both individually and collectively. The newest dragonslayers of Blackhand should take pride in this accomplishment an...
